On our guided walking holiday in Belgium explore the southern French-speaking area of Wallonia, gateway to the Ardennes and its densely forested mountains, rolling valleys and fairy-tale villages. You’ll ease into your holiday on the Eurostar train from London to Brussels and then journey south to your base in the historic city of Liège.
As you begin to explore the Ardennes, let a knowledgeable local guide lead you through Liège, pointing out colourful 18th century frontages, a timber-framed Romanesque church and the grand opera house. Take a gentle stroll along the banks of the river Meuse to find cast-iron bridges, artisan market stalls and cafes to pause at for a coffee or delicious waffle. Next, you’ll walk to Herve along a Belgian stretch of the Camino de Santiago, using a well-graded, disused railway line. Here we’ll introduce you to a local cheesemaker so you can learn the time-old techniques and sample the finished product yourself. Then we’ll whisk you to the High Fens, Belgium’s largest nationally protected reserve, for a simple walk through an unspoiled landscape of moors and woodland, with the chance after to try the Belgian wheat beer brewed at the 13th-century Abbey of Val-Dieu by the Cistercian monks. It’s the perfect place to toast your holiday in Belgium.
Belgium's fairy tale region of castles, abbeys, and historic cities mixes seamlessly with green ways, rivers, verdant pastures and protected reserves. Discover pretty villages and important cities with our guides, sail the River Maas and taste what Belgium is famous for - Beer, waffles and chocolate!
